DIRECTIONS TO THE REAL GUNS LOCALS RANGE

How to Find Us – And a Few Things to Keep in Mind
Getting to Real Guns Locals is easy—just follow the map, keep an eye out for our signs, and enjoy the drive. Once you’re on the access road, please stick to the 30KM speed limit. We share this road with a working farm, so there may be stock, machinery, or farmers going about their day.

Be respectful, take it slow, and drive like you’d want others to if it were your paddock. And remember—if the gate is shut when you arrive, open it, drive through, and shut it behind you. We appreciate you helping us keep things safe and running smoothly!

  1. Firearms Safety
All shooters must follow the 7 New Zealand Firearms Safety Rules at all times. These are the foundation of safe firearms handling in New Zealand.
  2. Firearm Restrictions
Only firearms with a muzzle energy not exceeding 7500 Joules are permitted on the range.
  3. Ammunition Restrictions
The use of tracer, incendiary, or armor-piercing ammunition is strictly prohibited.
  4. Safe Handling
Firearms may only be handled on the firing line and under the direct instruction of the Range Officer.

  5. Changing Targets

When the Range Officer closes the range for target changes, everyone must:

    • Remove your magazine

    • Remove the bolt (if possible) and place it in your pocket

If you are not going downrange, step back from the bench and do not handle any firearms or equipment until the Range Officer declares the range live again.

  6. Shooting Positions
If you are shooting at 25m or 50m, please use Bay 1 only to prevent crossfire.
This is a shared space — please be respectful and limit use to one shooting position per two-position bay to ensure safety and comfort for all shooters.
  7. Mandatory Safety Gear
All shooters must wear ear protection and covered footwear at all times while on the range.
  8. Permitted Shooting Hours
Shooting is only allowed between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. No shooting outside of these hours.
  9. Environmental Responsibility
Shooters are required to clean up all rubbish and spent casings, using the bins provided.
  10. Range Conduct
All shooters must follow the commands and instructions of the Range Officer at all times.

DON'T BE THAT GUY.

Follow the range standing rules

Don’t Be That Guy
You know the one—we all do. The guy who leaves his brass all over the range, tramples over safety rules like they’re optional, and vanishes when it’s time to pack up.

Don’t be that guy. At Real Guns Locals, we run a safe, clean, and respectful range—and it only works if everyone does their part. Pick up after yourself, follow the rules, and help keep this place awesome for everyone.

Be the shooter others want to share a bench with—not the one they talk about on the ride home.

Firearms Licence & Supervision Policy

To use the Locals Range, you must hold a current New Zealand Firearms Licence — and you must have it with you at all times while on site.

If you’re bringing along unlicensed shooters, you are responsible for actively supervising them at all times.

What does active supervision mean?

  • You must remain within arm’s reach of the person you’re supervising.

  • You must be focused on their actions, not shooting your own firearm at the same time.

  • You should not be shooting from a different bench, shed, or position while someone unlicensed is firing.

  • One licensed shooter may supervise more than one person, but only one unlicensed shooter should be firing at a time.

This is about safety, compliance, and respect for everyone on the range.
Failure to follow these rules may result in immediate removal from the range and may be reported to the relevant authorities.
